Managing your finances effectively is the only way to reach your long-term financial goals, whether you’re on a mission to get out of debt, save for retirement, or something else entirely. Thankfully, you can do all of this on your smartphone.
The following apps will give you more control over your finances, from online banking and budgeting to gaining real-time insights into your bank accounts, investments, and market trends.
- You Need A Budget (YNAB)
The YNAB app is unlike most financial apps on the market. Instead of having you come up with ballpark figures for your expenses, this app will force you to track every dollar. This might seem tedious at first, but many successful business coaches promote this method because it works.
Based on your current account balance and scheduled expenses, the app will tell you how much money you need during the month to meet all of your known expenses. If you have all your bills covered, it will tell you how much money you have left that is unaccounted for.
For example, after all of your bills are paid, you might have $584 left this month. That will tell you exactly how much money you can spend on unplanned expenses. For example, if you need to buy a case for your Galaxy S25, you’ll know if you have enough left over for that.
This app is a great way to track your finances, provided you create a recurring, monthly expense for adding money to your savings account. Otherwise, you might spend too much of your available cash and forget to save.
The app currently costs $15 per month or $99 per year with a free 34-day trial.
- Mint
Mint is a free, simple, yet useful budgeting app made by Intuit that aggregates all of your financial data into one app. It will automatically categorize your transactions to tell you how much money you’re spending in each main category. Mint will track your recurring expenses and send you reminders so you don’t forget.
The app provides personalized budgeting tips based on your spending habits, and if there’s anything unusual about your spending, you’ll get an alert. You’ll also get access to your credit scores inside the app with tips on how to improve your score.
Mint is free to use and is funded by in-app ads and product offers, but you’re never obligated to make a purchase.
- Personal Capital
As a wealth management app, Personal Capital combines budgeting with investment tracking to help you manage your finances holistically. Whatever you’re investing in, you can add the details to your account, and the system will give you a comprehensive overview of your financial status.
This is a great tool for seeing your financial health at-a-glance and making informed decisions about how you save, spend, and invest. This is a free tool – although the company does advertise its financial advisory services.
- Monarch Money
Monarch Money is an app for people who are serious about reaching their financial goals. You can import data from more than 13,000 financial institutions, which should cover all your bank accounts and investment accounts, like 401(k)s, ETFs, mutual funds, stocks, and even crypto accounts.
It works like any other budgeting app; enter your monthly expenses and you’ll get a detailed overview of your financial health for the month.
Monarch Money offers a free 7-day trial, and costs either $9.99 per month or $99 per year after that.
- Honeydue
If you need to budget with your partner, and you both have separate financial accounts, Honeydue is perfect. The app will sync both of your bank accounts, credit cards, and investments to give you a solid financial overview. This is a great tool for budgeting as a couple. It allows you to keep separate accounts, yet still manage them in one spot.
All of your expenses will be placed into standard categories, but you can also create custom categories that work best for you. With each category, you can set monthly spending limits and the app will alert you both when either person is close to reaching the set limit. Like other apps, you’ll get reminders for upcoming recurring bills.
Although this app is great for tracking expenses, it isn’t suitable for planning ahead. However, it’s free, so you have nothing to lose by trying it out.
Take control of your finances
Managing your finances has never been easier, thanks to the variety of apps available. Financial apps are the easiest way to monitor your budget, track your spending, and manage your investments – all from the convenience of your phone.
